You have purged each room and meticulously packed up, and have labeled box after box. You are nearly done but one of the most important things that people often forget when moving is what you will need on your first night. This requires some careful planning but you don’t know exactly what you need and you also don’t want to forget anything. You don’t have time to run to the store several times because you can’t find the box that your paper towel is in, or laptop charger, as an example.
There are two boxes that should be packed for the first night in the new home. One is the box that has everything that your entire family will need. The second is your own box with items on you will need. Note that you actually do not need to use a box, you can use a bin or even a suitcase!
The Family Essentials
- Antibacterial Wipes
- Pet Food and Pet Dishes
- The one plate, one cup, one bowl etc as discussed in the How To Pack Your Kitchen blog
- All-purpose knife
- First Aid Kit
- Shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothbrushes, and toothpaste
- Flashlight and a lighter
- Garbage Bags
- Tool Kit
- Important documents like medical records, passports, financial information, etc
- Phone charger
- Pain Relievers
-Change of clothes
-Toothbrush and toothpaste
-Laptop, charger, any electronics
This list isn’t set in stone so it can be changed to be suitable for your needs. You may have a large family or you are moving on your own. Each box is different from the next but it is a good idea to start creating your list before you need this box. That way you know exactly what you need in it and it doesn’t get packed up on accident. Keep in mind that this is one of the boxes that you want to be put in the moving truck or car last so it is the first to go into the house, making it easier on you so you know exactly where it is.
