Moving can be chaotic and stressful with having to pack your entire home, move the boxes, load them into a truck and unload them. It’s a lengthy process and we want to give you as much information as we can when it comes to moving.
You have ordered your moving boxes, kits and supplies, packed up your home and now it’s time to load the truck. This seems like a daunting task because you may not know what should go in the truck first! Do you put in your least important items in first and your most important last? We have you covered on what exactly you should do when loading your moving truck.
One of the most important things you want to think of before loading the truck is safety first! Check to see that the ramp from the moving truck is in working condition and also that it is clean of any debris. Rent any dollies that may be needed to help with moving your items. Also, consider purchasing our leather moving gloves to assist with lifting difficult items. Never try and lift heavy items on your own so make sure you have someone else with you to assist with lifting so you don’t harm yourself.
When your loading the truck you want to begin with the heaviest items first. This includes couches, tables, mattresses, bed frames etc. Make sure to stand these items upright as they will take up more room in the truck if you lay them horizontal. Use moving blankets to cover some of your furniture to protect it from any damage or to create a buffer if there is additional furniture that is against it.
Lighter items should be packed last and this includes anything fragile so they are brought into your house first. You can place these items on top of furniture and other boxes that have already been loaded into the truck. These lighter items include mirrors, tvs, appliances, and any lighter boxes. Make sure that any boxes that have been labeled as fragile should be placed where they will not be shifted around or could possibly fall while the truck is being driven. Consider putting these boxes at the very front of the truck so they are the first one’s the be taken inside.
Make sure that you are evenly distributing the weight in the truck. You want to make sure that the heavier items are at the back of the truck and that you balance it out, if you are putting heavier items on one side of the back of the truck make sure you add equally heavy items on the other side. This will make it easier for whoever is driving the truck.
Use moving straps to secure your heavy items so they will not tip or move around when the truck is being driven. Secure by section so that everything is secure, this also means any moving boxes that were placed on of furniture. You want to make sure this drive is as smooth and safe as possible.
