Whether you are packing your home office or relocation to a new office in your building, you want to make sure that you pack everything perfectly. You have files, computer, supplies, and furniture that you need to move and you don’t want to miss anything really important, especially when it comes to your business.
The first thing you want to do is order some Premium File Boxes as these will be perfect for all your moving needs. You can use these boxes to transport your files as well as your desktop computer (if you use one in your office).
Before you start packing you want to consider backing up your computer files onto an external hard drive. This is so you can access your files on your laptop and you also have a backup of everything you have. If you use DropBox or Google Drive, this isn’t as necessary but it is best to have a none online version of your files just in case.
Another before you start packing tip is purging your office. This is the perfect time to declutter and remove anything that you really don’t need in your new office. Files that have been in your office for months that you don’t need can go into storage. You can also purchase some new items like decorative storage boxes to put some more important items in that can be stored away instead of piled onto a bookcase.
You don’t want to pack your desk up right away, these are where your everyday essentials are and you don’t want them in a box when you need them most. Start removing items off shelves and pack them in boxes. Make sure you label your boxes so you know what is in each box. Consider having boxes dedicated to your bookshelves or filing cabinets.
If you have any picture frames, plaques, or awards, consider also purchasing some bubble wrap so you can safely wrap them before packing them away in boxes.
When it gets closer to the date that you are moving, start packing away some of your drawer items. Many use their drawers to just place things in them and forget about it. Go through them and see if there are any documents needing to be shredded or saved or anything that should be thrown out. Start putting these items into their own box. If you have office plants, they should be moved into their own box and brought to their new location and placed in a sunny spot (if you are able to) so they do not get damaged in the move and it is one less thing to worry about.
This would be a good time to consider hiring movers to assist with moving your office furniture ( this depends if you are moving locations and will need transportation. If you are moving into a new office in the same building then you just need a few extra hands. If you are moving your home office to your new home, all the furniture can go into your moving truck). This would also be a good time to purchase new furniture if you are looking for something more up to date. You can check out IKEA or Structube for some great affordable choices!
When you move into your new office and the furniture is exactly where you want it, the first thing you want to do is set up your computer and make sure everything is up and running and that you are connected to the internet. You want to be able to access emails, databases, and files right away because everything else in your office is more decorative so that can be arranged and put in their right places over time.
